ZXY · Query clustering

Query clustering: intent-based semantics without cannibalization

If your semantics are already collected but rankings refuse to grow, the usual cause is queries distributed across the wrong pages, so pages compete with each other. Clustering puts everything in its place: one cluster per page, and every type of query meets the content built for it.

In short

Query clustering groups keywords by intent and maps each cluster to a page: commercial terms to services, informational ones to the blog, branded to the home page. ZXY delivers a cannibalization-free URL map in 3–5 days, from 15 000 RUB.

How it works

Intent clusters

Commercial, informational, branded and navigational — with clean boundaries.

Page map

Cluster → URL: which page targets which query group.

Cannibalization removed

Pages competing inside your site get split across distinct clusters.

Priorities

Which clusters bring traffic fastest — work ordered by potential.

Why clustering matters

Semantics without clustering is a word list, not a work plan. A search engine ranks pages, not the site as a whole: for every query it picks one, the most relevant page of your domain. When three pages claim the same query, the algorithm cannot tell which one is the main one, and all three rank below their potential — this is keyword cannibalization. Clustering removes the conflict: queries are grouped by meaning, every group gets an addressee, and internal links confirm the hierarchy. After clustering, rankings typically grow without adding a single new word of content — the internal competition simply disappears.

How the work runs

Step one is an audit of the current state: which pages exist, for which queries they show in Webmaster data, where the overlaps are. Step two is semantic parsing: your array (or one we collect) is grouped by intent, by machine and by hand. Step three is the map: every cluster is assigned an existing or planned page; conflicting pages get a decision — split, merge (with a 301 redirect) or rework. Step four is priorities: clusters are ranked by demand volume and speed to result. Everything is delivered as a table plus a URL map and reviewed in a session: what to do first and how to measure the effect.

Clustering for the AI-assisted SERP

Clusters are prepared with the new result surfaces in mind: question groups are tagged for FAQ blocks and answer-first content (AEO/GEO), comparative ones for snippet tables, informational ones for articles and definition pages. Once clustering is done you can order content of any complexity — the semantic foundation already supports both classic rankings and citation by AI engines. One job closes three promotion channels at once, and the map stays valid whichever channel you fund next.

What you receive

Four working documents: a cluster table with intent labels and metrics; a URL map binding clusters to existing and planned pages; a conflict list with decisions — what to merge, what to split, which 301 redirects are needed; and a priority sheet ordering content production. Plus a 30–40 minute walkthrough session where we explain the logic and answer your team's questions. The materials are self-sufficient: hand them to any SEO specialist or let us implement them.

Cost and timelines

Clustering up to 1 000 queries — from 15 000 RUB (3–5 days), up to 3 000 — from 25 000 RUB (5–7 days), large catalogs of 3 000+ — from 45 000 RUB (7–10 days). If you have no semantics yet, add core collection: the "core + clustering + map" package saves 15%. Refreshing an old clustering — from 8 000 RUB. Rush work carries a 30% surcharge. Corrections within 2 weeks of delivery are free.

Why ZXY

We have clustered semantics since 2014 and keep an engineering bar: intent labels on every cluster, cannibalization verified before rollout, real decisions on conflicting pages instead of "recommend reworking". Our maps are compatible with AI-assisted results — question clusters immediately get an AEO/GEO role. We cooperate with your current SEO contractor if promotion is handled elsewhere: the map ships in a format that drops into any process. And crucially, we implement what we design — from content to redirects.

Frequently asked questions

How much does query clustering cost?

Up to 1 000 queries — from 15 000 RUB, up to 3 000 — from 25 000 RUB, large catalogs — from 45 000 RUB. Timelines run 3–10 days by volume. The "core + clustering" package is 15% cheaper.

How is clustering different from core collection?

The core is collecting every query of the niche. Clustering groups the semantics you already have by intent and binds groups to pages. If you have no semantics yet, start with core collection.

What is keyword cannibalization?

It is when several pages of one site compete for the same query: the engine cannot tell which page is the main one and downgrades all of them. Clustering separates them into different groups.

How fast is the effect?

Removing cannibalization grows rankings within 2–6 weeks of rollout: the algorithm needs time to re-evaluate the pages. Content work then compounds the effect.

Are 301 redirects required?

If pages are merged — yes: old addresses redirect to new ones with their weight preserved. We prepare the full redirect list and verify it after rollout.

Will you implement it?

Yes: we can edit meta tags and structure ourselves, set up redirects and write content briefs. Or hand the map to your contractor.
